Trump Media Allocates $300 Million to Bitcoin-Related Option Contracts

Truth Social’s parent firm bets $300 million on Bitcoin-linked derivatives, signaling a strategic shift in its crypto exposure.
Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), which operates Truth Social, committed $300 million last week to acquire options tied to Bitcoin-related securities, according to Bloomberg. The investment marks a shift from simply holding Bitcoin-related assets to strategies that amplify exposure to digital asset price movements.
Specific contract details remain undisclosed. In March, a Truth Social message suggesting the U.S. consider BTC and ETH as reserve assets coincided with price rallies in both cryptocurrencies.
The Bitcoin-related securities tied to these options may include exchange-traded funds, publicly listed crypto company shares, or convertible notes from firms like Michael Saylor’s Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy). These derivatives can generate leveraged gains during Bitcoin rallies but become worthless if prices fail to reach strike levels before expiry.
TMTG declined to comment on its derivatives strategy. The company’s crypto activity has drawn political scrutiny, but a White House spokesperson said the president “has never engaged in, and never will engage in, any conflict of interest.”
TMTG already holds approximately $2 billion in BTC and related assets on its balance sheet, ranking among the largest corporate crypto treasuries globally. While more publicly traded firms have added digital assets under the current administration’s regulatory approach, few have entered options markets.
Trump’s crypto holdings represent a significant portion of his personal wealth. Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index estimates TMTG stock accounts for about $2.2 billion of his $6.6 billion net worth. His broader cryptocurrency investments are believed to have increased by at least $620 million in recent months.
Nearly 70 nominees and officials in the administration have disclosed crypto or blockchain investments, with reported stakes ranging from modest amounts to over $120 million.
