Avalanche Brings a 245-Year-Old Whisky Brand to the Blockchain

Avalanche Brings a 245-Year-Old Whisky Brand to the Blockchain - Blockport

Scottish distillery Bowmore has partnered with Avalanche to launch tokenized whisky bottles.

Bowmore, Scotland’s second-oldest distillery, is tokenizing whisky bottles by minting limited-edition NFTs on the Avalanche C-Chain. According to an announcement from Avalanche, each bottle is tied to an NFT, providing verifiable ownership through nft.suntory.com. The presale has begun, and the collection will debut at the TOKEN2049 Singapore event on September 30, 2025.

Bowmore’s Tokenized Whisky Collection Details

The first release of Bowmore’s tokenized whisky line is the Collector’s Edition (US$5,500), limited to only 8 NFTs. It includes a Bowmore 30-Year-Old bottle, special glassware, and a chance to meet Ava Labs founder and CEO Emin Gün Sirer. For a more accessible option, Bowmore is also offering a 12-Year-Old edition at US$180, limited to 150 bottles.

Each bottle is represented as NFTs, providing tamper-proof authentication and digital proof of ownership. They are available on the Suntory website, which supports both crypto wallets and simple email logins. After purchasing digital assets, owners can redeem them in person at TOKEN2049. According to Ashley Maclachlan, Senior Director Global Digital – Scotch & Irish Brands at Suntory Global Spirits, both Web3 users and traditional whisky enthusiasts will enjoy the experience.

Partnering with Avalanche allows us to offer a new kind of whisky experience that combines the rarity and craftsmanship of our spirits with the security and transparency of blockchain technology.

Maclachlan said.

This tokenized release marks a bold step forward in how collectors and enthusiasts can connect with our whiskies.

Roi Hirata, Head of Japan at Ava Labs, said that Bowmore selected Avalanche due to Ava’s scalability, low fees and rapid finality. To mark the launch, Bowmore and Avalanche will host an exclusive omakase dinner at Wakuda Singapore on September 30, 2025. Eight owners of the Bowmore 30-Year Avalanche edition will join industry leaders and special guests at the table. In addition, a VIP tasting event will give press, collectors, and crypto enthusiasts the chance to sample the bottles firsthand.

Growing Market for Tokenized Real-World Assets

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Paul Atkins has called tokenization “an innovation,” highlighting its potential to modernize markets and make them more efficient. His comments show that regulators are increasingly open to digital asset technologies.

The market for tokenized assets is growing quickly. Blockchain technology is driving this growth by allowing real-world assets like real estate, stocks, and commodities to be digitized. Tokenization makes these assets easier to trade, gives people the chance to own fractions of them, and improves transparency, making previously hard-to-access investments available to more people.

As rules evolve to support tokenization, the market is set to keep growing, creating more opportunities for traditional companies and blockchain projects to work together.
