American Bitcoin Targets Japan for Corporate Bitcoin Reserve Strategy

Trump-linked miner American Bitcoin eyes Japan acquisitions to hold BTC on balance sheets, giving stock investors indirect crypto exposure.

American Bitcoin, the mining company backed by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, is exploring acquisitions of publicly listed companies in Japan and potentially Hong Kong to create a corporate Bitcoin reserve.

The company wants to acquire listed companies and use them to hold BTC, copying Strategy’s balance sheet strategy. American Bitcoin is focusing on Japan, with Hong Kong also being considered, sources familiar with the discussions said.

The U.S.-based miner plans to give stock market investors indirect Bitcoin exposure through operating companies that accumulate the cryptocurrency. American Bitcoin said it is assessing opportunities but has not finalized any agreements. The company stated it is evaluating prospects “in certain regions” and has not entered “binding” arrangements, according to Japanese media coverage.

The acquisition search comes as American Bitcoin advances plans to go public in the U.S. through an all-stock merger with Gryphon Digital Mining. The combined entity will trade on Nasdaq under the American Bitcoin name with ticker “ABTC” after closing. The transaction was announced in May and positions the business as both a miner and BTC accumulation platform.

American Bitcoin and its partners raised fresh capital in recent months to scale operations and purchase mining equipment and BTC. In late June and early July, the company announced roughly $220 million in financing for digital asset mining and accumulation.

American Bitcoin emerged this spring from American Data Centers, previously tied to Dominari Holdings, after a partnership with Hut 8. Under that deal, Hut 8 contributed mining assets and became the majority owner of the new venture, with the Trump sons among early stakeholders.

Corporate Bitcoin treasuries have gained interest alongside this year’s market rally and the listing of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs. MicroStrategy’s multi-year strategy of converting corporate cash and debt into bitcoin has provided a template for equity investors seeking cryptocurrency exposure outside of funds and exchanges.
